Lord Varys, often referred to as the Spider, served as the Master of Whisperers on the small council for multiple kings in Westeros throughout the Game of Thrones series. A eunuch, his early life involved being sold as a slave and then subjected to a painful mutilation as part of a sorcerer's ritual. This experience fueled his deep distrust of magic and his ambition to protect the realm.

Varys built an extensive network of informants, known as his "little birds," spanning across continents. This intelligence gathering allowed him to manipulate events and anticipate threats. He professed his loyalty to the realm, consistently acting in what he perceived to be its best interest, even if it meant betraying those he served.

He initially supported Daenerys Targaryen as the rightful heir, believing she could bring stability to Westeros. However, his concern over her potential for tyranny led him to ultimately conspire against her, supporting Jon Snow's claim to the throne instead. His actions resulted in his execution by Daenerys, marking the end of his influential role in the game of thrones.
